Boating Transformers - Technical Notes

We recommend the following wiring method when using our standard waterproof transformers to eliminate the risk of galvanic corrosion between your boats hull and other boats or metal objects.

A link is used to bond the earth & neutral on the transformer output as this will allow the boats fuses & RCDs to operate correctly whilst isolating the shore power earth.
Hull Isolation Waterproof Transformer

Our hull isolation waterproof transformers have an additional safety earth screen between the primary & secondary windings. This is connected to the shore power earth and will trip the shore power RCD or circuit breaker in the highly unlikely event of insulation breakdown in the transformer.
