Is the standard relating to the performance of enclosures in resisting the ingress of water and foreign objects. BS EN 60529:1992 Specification for degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP code). Following the IP tag are two numbers. Eg: IP68 The first relates to the protection offered by the enclosure to solid objects and dust. 0 - Non-protected 1 - Protected against solid foreign objects of 50 mm diameter and greater 2 - Protected against solid foreign objects of 12.5 mm diameter and greater 3 - Protected against solid foreign objects of 2.5 mm diameter and greater 4 - Protected against solid foreign objects of 1.0 mm diameter and greater 5 - Dust-protected 6 - Dust-tight The second number indicates the protective qualities of the enclosure to the ingress of water. 0 - Non-protected 1 - Protected against vertically falling water drops 2 - Protected against vertically falling water drops as the enclosure is tilted 15 degrees 3 - Protected against spraying water 4 - Protected against splashing water 5 - Protected against water jetting 6 - Protected against powerful water jetting 7 - Protected against temporary immersion 8 - Protected against continuous immersion BASIC SAFETY Before using this equipment and to avoid personal injury, carefully read and understand these instructions. Position them away from the equipment where they will be protected from water, sharp objects and where they will not pose a trip hazard. Keep the lead dry; protect this equipment from damp or wet conditions. For additional safety always use an RCD between the transformer and the item being powered. Switch the power OFF before plugging into the supply. |
